in 2006 they released "the black parade", which is considered one of their most iconic albums. it tells the story of a dying man with cancer who is known as "the patient". the album tells the story of his apparent death, experiences in the afterlife, and subsequent reflections on his life.

in 2010 the band took a different musical approach with their fourth album, "danger days: the true lives of the fabulous killjoys". the albums storyline takes place in post-apocalyptic california in 2019, where a group of rebellious outsiders known as killjoys battle against an evil corporation.
